Community and Philanthropy

We prioritise financial support for charities and museums that celebrate textiles, craftsmanship and historic interiors, as well as contributing to other causes close to our hearts.

In 2010 Soane co-founder Lulu Lytle designed the brass Camel Doorstop to financially support efforts to preserve the critically endangered wild camel.  With fewer than 600 wild camels remaining in China and only 450 in Mongolia, it is vital that every effort is made to protect them.

Lulu is a trustee of the Wild Camel Protection Foundation (WCPF).  All proceeds of the doorstop will aid WCPF’s work with government and local authorities in China and Mongolia, with the aim to protect this remarkable creature and its pristine desert environment from extinction and destruction.

Lulu is also an ambassador for Maggie’s, a charity providing free specialist support and information for people living with cancer and their families.  Every year, our team raises £10,000 through various initiatives, and Soane matches this — supporting our goal of donating £20,000 a year to Maggie’s.

We have partnered with the V&A Museum to establish and fund scholarships and grants to students, early career researchers and emerging practitioners working anywhere in the world on any aspect of Asian or African textiles and dress.

We are annual corporate sponsors of the Sir John Soane’s Museum in London, helping to fund educational programmes and the conservation and restoration of antique furniture and artwork.

Every year, we sponsor Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s Decorator Show House, where interior designers transform homes in Manhattan, Palm Beach and Dallas into exhibitions of fine furnishings.  Proceeds from the exhibits are channelled into after school enrichment programs for disadvantaged children.

In 2022, we sponsored an exhibit with The George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum displaying 1,000 years of Indian textiles, including works from Karun Thakar’s private collection.

Local Community

We support our community in Leicester by offering apprenticeships in traditional rattan weaving.  To enrich life outside of work, we helped fund the restoration of the Church of St Michael & All Angel in Thurmaston, where our rattan weavers are based.
