Our Sustainability Goals and Performance

Sustainability is integral to our long-lasting products and the way we work. We are determined to source our materials responsibly and reduce our environmental impact.

Carbon

Scope 1 & 2: (greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within our direct control)

By end 2022: We committed to set science-based scope 1 & 2 emission reduction targets in line with SBTi criteria and recommendations. The SBTi has approved Soane’s near-term science-based emissions reduction target. We aim to reach net-zero carbon emissions from all our controlled assets by 2030.

By end 2025: Purchased electricity will be 100% renewable.

Scope 3: (emissions from our value chain)

By end 2025: Map and (where possible) quantify all GHG emissions from our value chain. Strive to reduce emissions, reporting regularly on progress.

Materials

As of the end of 2023, we ensure all timber used in products supplied through Soane workshops and third parties is independently certified as sustainable. This includes wood fibres used in wallpaper.

As of March 2024, nine months ahead of schedule, we will only use natural and FR chemical free materials in our domestic upholstery filling. Working with industry experts, we have developed a foam alternative, free from fire retardant chemicals, combining natural latex, coconut coir, and wool.

By end 2024: We are working towards using only certified and/or recycled cotton. We have traced all our cotton sources down to country level and we’re working on sources of cotton to be fully traceable to the initial producer.

By end 2026: We aim to source all leather from tanneries that are either Leather Working Group (LWG) GOLD certified or meet our high internal audit standards for leather based on LWG criteria in order to be more inclusive to smaller British tanneries. We’re working with local British producers to increase the traceability of our hides to ensure animal welfare throughout the supply chain. We will also ensure that all our hides contain no chromium based tanning agents.

By end 2030: Ensure all materials are either biodegradable or recyclable. Increase the percentage of recycled materials used to improve circularity.
