Metal – Antique Bronze – Unlacquered
Patination is a significant process in the creation of all our metal designs and is carried out at Soane’s own workshop in Leicester, England. Brass is meticulously brazed and polished before the metal is ready to be patinated. The technique requires our craftsmen to carefully apply oxidising elements to give a beautiful finish or ‘patina’. It requires great skill and patience and is crucial to ensuring that every piece has an immediate depth and atmosphere. Our patination specialist Andy has been refining our bronze patina over the last two and a half years alone, creating the perfect balance between how long the brass is patinated for and how far back it can be polished, after a layer of cold wax has been applied. We are proud to achieve our antique bronze finish without the use of ammonia, which is considered highly toxic.
All our metal finishes are hand applied, unlacquered and living, and we expect these to age and patina over time. Please note that this includes our metal samples.
