Metal – Polished Nickel – Unlacquered
Patination is a significant process in the creation of all our metal designs and is carried out at Soane’s own workshop in Leicester, England. Before this process can begin, a thin layer of nickel is electroplated on to brass by specialist metal workers in South Yorkshire, before being rubbed back, meticulously brazed and polished. The technique requires our craftsmen to carefully apply oxidising elements to give a beautiful finish or ‘patina’. It requires great skill and patience and is crucial to ensuring that every piece has an immediate depth and atmosphere.
All our metal finishes are hand applied, unlacquered and living, and we expect these to age and patina over time. Please note that this includes our metal samples.
