Our Designs

We aim to produce well-made, enduring and life enhancing designs in collaboration with talented craftspeople all over the UK. While the choice of sustainable, mainly natural materials and the preservation of ancient craft techniques are our main priorities, we embrace new technologies and materials as we strive to make a positive impact on people and nature.

For example, some of our established modern upholstered furniture designs rely on synthetic foam to maintain form and shape. Foam is made from petrochemicals treated with potentially harmful fire-resistant chemicals, and is neither recyclable nor biodegradable. We are working on designs that will eliminate the use of synthetic foam and that are better suited to natural upholstery materials, while maintaining a modern aesthetic. Working with industry experts, we have developed a foam alternative, free from fire retardant chemicals, combining natural latex, coconut coir, and wool – as seen in our Crillon and Opera collections. By end 2024, we will only use natural and FR chemical free materials.

Soane Britain's designs: We want to become a circular business where nothing is wasted and our products are long-lasting, repairable and recyclable.

We want to become a circular business where nothing is wasted and our products are long-lasting, repairable and recyclable. We currently offer a repair service for our designs which involves minor restoration and reupholstery and we are looking for ways to expand this service.
