Timber Stained – Fumed Oak

Made from oak, our timber is hand stained to create a 'fumed' effect using a water-based stain. This reduces the reliance on chemicals traditionally associated with fuming wood, while allowing our craftspeople to better control an even tone when enhancing the characteristics of the grain. The timber is then denibbed (or sanded back and polished) to close the grain before a clear laquer is applied. Finally, the finish is gently rubbed back with fine steel wool to create softness and sealed with a layer of beeswax.

All of Soane's timber complies with the EU's Timber Regulations (EUTR) and is independently certified as sustainable.
